NBAS Welcomes Special Guest Ed Faits at our August Meeting!

Join us at the North Adams Public Library, Wed. August 5th (6PM) when we’ll have a special presentation by Ed Faits, “The Wanderers”

Throughout the ages humans have been fascinated with the night sky. All the stars move in lock step through the year, except for five “wanderers” that didn’t follow the rules: the planets. This talk takes a look at how perception of the planets changed over time as knowledge and technology evolved. We’ll also look at the ups and downs of the public view of Pluto and take a look beyond the solar system.

About the Speaker

Ed Faits, retired computer programmer, grew up in the Springfield area during the “sputnik” era and has long been fascinated with all things astronomical. He built his first telescope with his dad at age 12 and still “star gazes” every chance he gets. He has been a member of the Springfield STARS club for over 35 years and has been volunteering at the Springfield Science Museum since 1988. He is a founding director of the Arunah Hill Natural Science Center where his current duties include mowing the grass, sweeping the pavilion, maintaining the telescopes, and welcoming scout and school groups.
