A Generous Donation

We are pleased to announce a generous donation to NBAS: a fully-outfitted Celestron NexStar 6SE, complete with a full set of eyepieces, filters, and other accessories.

This scope will be used at our observing events, and as a training telescope for members who want to gain experience using one.

It’s a great “first serious” telescope: a 6" (150mm) Schmidt-Cassegrain with a 1500mm focal length (f/10) — large enough to pull in all the brighter deep-sky objects, while also being well-suited to planetary observing. It’s also computerized with a GoTo mount, which makes it especially approachable for newer members and public events. (We’re looking forward to using it to observe Saturn this Fall.)

We took it out for a quick first look last night and pointed it at Venus — a promising start for what this scope will show at future events.
